The Twelve Colonies Ambrosia

What It Is

Midori, Southern Comfort, Chambord, sour-apple schnapps, blue curaçao and lime are blended over crushed ice into an aggressively colourful Battlestar Galactica-inspired cocktail.

Origin

A Battlestar Galactica-inspired Earth cocktail named for the Twelve Colonies.

Fun Fact

Aroma changes how strongly we perceive flavour, which is why herbs, citrus peel and warm spices can make a simple recipe taste far more complicated than the effort involved.

Ingredients

  • 3 oz Midori
  • 1 oz Southern Comfort
  • 1 oz Chambord
  • 1 oz sour-apple schnapps
  • 4 oz blue curaçao
  • 2 oz lime juice
  • 2 cups crushed ice

Steps

  1. Add all liquid ingredients to a blender.
  2. Add crushed ice and blend until slushy.
  3. Serve immediately, preferably before anybody starts accusing the blender of being a Cylon.

Notes

This contains a lot of alcohol wearing very cheerful colours. The Cylon threat is fictional; the hangover is not.

Substitutions

Use equivalent ingredients where needed for allergies or availability, but keep the main sweet/sour/salty/spicy balance intact. This is cooking, not a hostage negotiation.

Storage

Keep covered and chilled. Fresh-fruit or dairy drinks are best used within 1–2 days; fizzy drinks are happiest served the same day before the bubbles file for retirement.

Freezing

Freeze still fruit bases or concentrates if useful, but add carbonation after thawing. Dairy-heavy drinks are better made fresh.
