What It Is
Broccoli and thin beef are sautéed with garlic, ginger and coconut aminos or tamari for a fast skillet dinner.
Origin
This is my chinese-leaning version, built around the ingredients and method that give the recipe its character.
Fun Fact
Broccoli is a Brassica vegetable, related to cabbage, kale and cauliflower. Family reunions must be exhausting.
Ingredients
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- ½ lb beef, thinly sliced and pre-cooked
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp fresh ginger
- 2 tbsp coconut aminos or tamari
- Coconut oil, for cooking
Steps
- Heat coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook broccoli to your preferred tenderness.
- Add the pre-cooked beef and sauté 2 minutes.
- Add garlic, ginger and coconut aminos or tamari and toss until hot.
Notes
Taste before the final adjustment. A recipe should guide dinner, not bully it. If it needs a little more acid, sweetness, salt or heat, make the change in small steps instead of launching the whole spice rack into orbit.
Substitutions
Use equivalent ingredients where needed for allergies or availability, but keep the main sweet/sour/salty/spicy balance intact. This is cooking, not a hostage negotiation.
Storage
Cool leftovers promptly and refrigerate in a covered container for up to 3 days. Keep fresh garnishes separate where practical.
Freezing
Freeze cooked components in airtight meal-sized portions for up to 2–3 months where practical. Fresh vegetables, dairy sauces and crunchy toppings are usually better added after thawing.
